Position Summary

The CDI Specialist supports accurate and complete clinical documentation to reflect the quality of care, ensure compliance, and optimize reimbursement. This role bridges the gap between clinical care and coding accuracy through provider engagement and record review.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review inpatient and outpatient records to ensure documentation supports the clinical severity, risk of mortality, and resource utilization.
  • Query physicians and advanced practice providers to clarify ambiguous, conflicting, or incomplete documentation.
  • Partner with coding staff to align clinical documentation with appropriate code assignment.
  • Educate providers and staff on best practices in documentation improvement.
  • Monitor CDI metrics and report findings to leadership.

Qualifications

  • RN, MD/DO, or advanced clinical background strongly preferred.
  • Certification in CDI (CCDS, CDIP) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of coding, DRGs, MS-DRGs, and HCCs.
  • Excellent communication and provider engagement skills.
