Job Overview/Purpose:

The Dean/Principal supervises and supports the academic instructional programs of the college and oversees student appeals; planning and institutional effectiveness efforts, resource allocation, faculty hiring and evaluation, curriculum development, scheduling, program evaluations and coordination with all support units – student services, academic support, educational technology and facilities and maintenance – in support of the vision-mission of the WCC.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides directional leadership for new instructional and developmental initiatives in his/her college to ensure the continual improvement of educational programs in accordance with governmental regulations regulating bodies' industry demands and strategic goals of WCC.

  2. Prepares, revises and coordinates, as necessary, the academic programs, curriculum, syllabi and plans for the College.

  3. Promotes and serves as a model for teaching professional achievement and professional service.

  4. Oversees all personnel matters involving faculty in his/her college – recruitment, appointment, re-appointment; discipline; faculty evaluation, tenure, promotion and merit; and the preparation and long –range professional development plans.

  5. Observes classroom teaching demonstrations and recommends to the Campus Manager qualified faculty members for hiring.

  6. Maintains good working relationships with the faculty and administration in all academic and non – academic areas.

  7. Maintains effective communication with students, faculty, coordinators, other deans within the college, other academic unit personnel community and governmental agencies.

  8. Serves as a liaison to relevant professional associations and governmental regulatory and accrediting agencies.

  9. Ensures that the College policies and practices are clearly communicated and consistent with those of the WCC overall directives.

  10. Articulates the budgetary needs of the College and oversees the allocation and expenditure of resources within his respective college.

  11. Participates in mediating faculty and student issues, grievances and appeals.

  12. Coordinates the use of facilities assigned to the College.

  13. Tracks employment rate for their graduates.

  14. Oversees the preparation of class schedules and compliance with WCC reporting requirements.

  15. Advises students with any of their academic concerns including, but not limited to admission and registration of students, transfer of credits, course loads, course sequence, course prerequisites, scholarships, residence and promotion

  16. Evaluates the direct reports – faculty members and staff in his office and extends counseling and mentoring

  17. Develops and recommends faculty development program to AVP for Academic Affairs.

  18. Works with Coordinators to encourage grant applications by faculty members and to prepare proposals for outside funding of special projects.

  19. Attends the Academic Council and prepares monthly reports.

  20. Ensures that QMS and any other accreditation standards are implemented, monitored and documented.

  21. Prepares the faculty loading and schedule and submits the same to the Campus Director

  22. Performs any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate superior

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of master's degree in a related academic program; Doctorate degree preferred
  • May be required for certain programs according to CMO/DepEd Order
  • 5 years higher administration experience
  • 5 years teaching experience
