The Finance Controllership – Store Operations role is responsible for overseeing the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of all financial activities related to store operations across the supermarket network.

This position ensures that accounting, reporting, and control processes at the store level are aligned with corporate standards and regulatory requirements. The incumbent acts as a key business partner to the store operations team, providing financial insights, governance, and process improvements to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Manage end-to-end accounting for store operations, including daily sales, cash deposits, credit card settlements, and expense recognition.
  • Ensure accurate recording of revenues, cost of goods sold (COGS), payroll, and other store-level operating costs.
  • Lead month-end and quarter-end closing activities, ensuring all entries and reconciliations are completed on time.
  • Prepare and analyze store-level P&L statements, identifying variances and performance trends.
  • Consolidate financial results across multiple stores for management reporting and decision-making.

2. Controllership & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls over store financial transactions, including cash handling, discounting, returns, and inventory shrinkage.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal control frameworks (SOX / ICFR), and statutory requirements.
  • Conduct periodic audits and surprise cash counts to monitor compliance and prevent financial irregularities.
  • Provide training to store and regional operations teams on financial policies and best practices.

3. Operational Finance

  • Partner with store and regional operations leaders to drive cost optimization and profitability improvements.
  • Analyze key operational metrics such as gross margin, shrinkage, labor costs, and store productivity.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and performance reviews for each store location.
  • Collaborate with merchandising, supply chain, and logistics teams to ensure proper inventory valuation and loss control.
  • Review financial feasibility and ROI for new store openings, renovations, and expansions.

4. Process Improvement & Systems

  • Implement standard financial procedures and reporting tools across all supermarket locations.
  • Identify and drive automation opportunities in cash reconciliation, expense tracking, and sales reporting.
  • Work with IT to ensure seamless integration between POS systems, ERP, and financial reporting platforms.
  • Lead or participate in finance transformation and process improvement projects.

5. Business Partnering & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the key finance point of contact for the Store Operations team.
  • Provide financial insights and actionable recommendations to improve operational performance.
  • Collaborate closely with senior management, internal audit, and corporate finance to ensure alignment on financial goals and compliance standards.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred.
  • Certification: Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is mandatory; additional certifications (e.g., CMA, CIA) are advantageous.
  • Experience:

  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in finance controllership, accounting, or retail operations finance.

  • Prior experience in a supermarket, grocery, or FMCG retail environment is strongly preferred.
  • Proven background in managing multi-location financial operations and audits.
  • Technical Expertise:

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP / IFRS, internal controls, and inventory accounting.

  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite) and POS systems used in retail operations.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, with exposure to Power BI or other analytical tools.
