Detailed Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Medication Dispensing and Preparation:

  • Assist in the accurate preparation and dispensing of medications following hospital policies and regulations.
  • Prepare sterile and non-sterile compounding, including intravenous (IV) medications, under supervision.
  • Ensure the correct dosages, forms, and administration routes for medications.

2. 
Clinical Pharmacy Services:

  • Support fellow pharmacists in reviewing and interpreting physician orders to ensure appropriateness of therapy.
  • Participate in medication therapy management to help optimize patient outcomes.
  • Assist in monitoring patient responses to medications and making necessary adjustments in therapy.

3. 
Drug Information and Education:

  • Provide basic drug information and education to other fellow healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers under the guidance of the Chief Pharmacist.
  • Stay updated on new drugs, therapies, and innovations in pharmacy practice.
  • Educate patients about their medications, including proper use, potential side effects, and interactions.

4. 
Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to ensure integrated care.
  • Communicate effectively regarding medication-related issues and changes in patient therapy under supervision.

5. 
Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and hospital policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives under the guidance of the Chief Pharmacist.
  • Assist in conducting regular audits and reviews to maintain high standards of pharmacy practice.

6. 
Inventory Management:

  • Assist in managing inventory to ensure the availability of necessary medications.
  • Oversee the storage and handling of medications to maintain their efficacy and safety.
  • Assist in managing controlled substances according to legal and regulatory requirements.

7. 
Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of medication orders, administration, and patient profiles.
  • Document clinical interventions and outcomes under supervision.
  • Ensure proper documentation for regulatory and accreditation purposes.

8. 
Training and Supervision:

  • Assist in mentoring and supervising pharmacy technicians and interns.
  • Provide ongoing training and development for pharmacy staff under the guidance of senior pharmacists.
  • Ensure staff adherence to hospital policies and procedures.

9. 
Emergency Response:

  • Participate in emergency response teams, providing immediate drug information and preparation in critical situations.
  • Ensure the availability of emergency medications and antidotes under supervision.

10. 
Professional Development:

  • Engage in continuous professional development and education.
  • Participate in professional organizations and conferences to stay abreast of industry developments.
  • Maintain licensure and certifications as required.

Qualifications

  • Skills in dispensing medications and managing patient medication therapy
  • Knowledge of drug interactions and medication counseling
  • Experience in inventory management and accurate prescription preparation
  • Ability to collaborate with healthcare professionals and maintain regulatory compliance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or a related field, with a valid pharmacist license
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting is a plus
