Job Description: Entry-Level Data Scientist (100% Remote, Davao City, Philippines)

About the Role

We're looking for a curious and technically adept Entry-Level Data Scientist to join our remote-first team. You'll leverage your analytical mindset and foundational knowledge in computer science to contribute to the next wave of AI innovation — especially with large language models (LLMs), advanced embedding systems, and security-aware ML deployments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, preprocess, and analyze large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Develop, fine-tune, and evaluate machine learning models utilizing customizable language models, embeddings, and advanced fine-tuning techniques (including PEFT, LoRA, QLoRA, Prefix Tuning, and Quantization-Aware Training).
  • Work hands-on with state-of-the-art open-source LLMs (e.g., Llama 3, Mistral, Phi, Gemini), as well as platforms like Ollama and Hugging Face.
  • Apply and experiment with hardware-efficient optimizations:
  • Use quantization (4-bit, 3-bit, etc.), QLoRA, L4Q, RoSTE and other parameter-efficient methods for scalable, resource-optimized model deployment.
  • Explore Mixture of Experts (MoE) architectures and Flash Attention for longer-context and high-throughput scenarios.
  • Assist in advanced security evaluation, risk analysis, and responsible deployment practices for LLMs.
  • Prepare clear documentation and communicate results to both technical and non-technical members.
  • Leverage AutoML tools (e.g., Google Vertex AI, AWS SageMaker, DataRobot, ) and experiment tracking solutions (e.g., MLflow, Neptune) for reproducible workflows.
  • Collaborate with data/ML engineers to integrate models with cloud ML platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data pipelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or relevant field.

Hands-on experience or strong interest in:

  • LLMs: Foundational understanding, pre-training, fine-tuning, and inference.
  • Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT): LoRA, QLoRA, Prefix Tuning, L4Q, RoSTE.
  • Quantization & Hardware-Aware ML: 8/4/3-bit quantization, quantization-aware training, and resource optimization.
  • Leading ML/NLP frameworks: Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit-learn, Hugging Face Transformers, and open-source LLM stacks.
  • AutoML tools: Experience or familiarity with platforms such as Vertex AI, SageMaker, DataRobot, or
  • Experiment Tracking & MLOps: (e.g., MLflow, Neptune).
  • Security evaluation techniques for model reliability and responsible AI deployment.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Able to self-organize and participate in fully remote, distributed teams.

Nice-to-Have Qualities

  • Building, deploying, or maintaining LLM-powered multimodal applications (text, image, audio input).
  • Understanding or hands-on knowledge of Mixture of Experts (MoE) architectures or large-scale transformer optimizations.
  • Contributions to open-source ML, NLP, or LLM ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with cloud ML pipeline development and best practices (MLOps, scaling, model monitoring, automated retraining).
  • Experience with advanced search and embedding tools (e.g., vector databases like Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS).
