Medical Coding Specialist Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes to patient records using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS or other designated coding classification systems.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical coding principles and practices, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. They will also possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Abstracting required clinical information from patient records.
  • Coding diagnoses and procedures accurately, including modifiers, and resolving coding edits.
  • Responding to audits and making necessary changes to coding of accounts based on agreed findings.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience performing inpatient medical record coding.
  • AHIMA or AAPC coding credentials (CPC, CIC, CCS) are highly desirable.
