Senior Software Development Lead

As a Senior Software Development Lead, you will oversee the development of Python and Golang micro-services that power our global software distribution engine. This role presents an excellent opportunity to lead a team in developing a highly scalable SaaS product, considering the load on our systems during large software updates.

You will have the chance to work closely with Canonical's world-class security team to deliver this capability safely to customers worldwide. Additionally, you will be responsible for coaching and mentoring your team members, helping them grow professionally, and fostering a healthy collaborative engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a remote team of software engineers in their respective time zones
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career growth opportunities
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate actively with the leadership team and contribute to strategic decision-making within the organization
  • Work closely with your team to design and implement clean web service APIs supporting both CLI and web frontend clients using Python and optionally Golang
  • Engage with various teams at Canonical as well as the open-source community and commercial partners
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in leading modern agile software development practices
  • Experience in cultivating a positive and collaborative engineering culture aligned with the company values
  • Demonstrated expertise in sound engineering principles, directly contributing to team success
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for internal events and meetings
  • Passion for mentoring, growing, and developing people, with a track record of doing so
  • Strong knowledge and passion for software development
  • Focus on delivering high-quality software on time
  • Able to foster great team culture and spirit
  • Agile development methodologies expertise
  • Software development experience in Python, with experience in Golang being a significant advantage
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Practical experience with Linux system administration
