Database Architect Position

As a skilled Database Architect, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing real-time databases and data systems to meet evolving client, product, and business needs - with a focus on performance, quality, and scalability.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in database architecture, data modeling, and data warehousing. They will also possess strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to drive substantial product features as the key developer alongside an architect, backend developer or analyst.

  • Design and optimize real-time databases and data systems.
  • Tune, productionize, and optimize data systems and machine learning models.
  • Take ownership of features end-to-end, from initial concept through deployment.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, leading by example in design reviews and pair programming.
  • Provide technical leadership in architecture and design discussions, advocating for simple, elegant solutions.
  • Continuously refine systems balancing new development with technical debt management to keep solutions stable and adaptable.

Example projects may include:

  • Building an AI-powered healthcare platform to help detect diseases earlier.
  • Launching a new fintech product from the ground up.
  • Scaling a global SaaS commerce system with millions of products.
Key Responsibilities
  • Make your first meaningful contribution to the project within two weeks.
  • Communicate well asynchronously and in meetings.
  • Understand the system architecture well and work independently or in teams on medium-sized features within three months.
  • Ship code in Production, clean, tested, and communicate clearly, raising issues early and contributing to reviews.
  • Deliver what you commit to.

After three months, you will take ownership of larger features and improvements from start to finish. You will help others by sharing knowledge, spotting problems early, and improving processes or tooling. You will make decisions with both the data/codebase and business goals in mind.
