Technical Expert and Strategist Role

This is a technical expert role where you will engage directly with open source communities and developer-centric organisations.

A key part of the job involves being a strategic and communicator with deep empathy for developers. This discipline combines practical engineering skills with firm diplomacy across organisational boundaries, in both directions.

  • We are looking for a programmer or developer with a demonstrable passion for and engagement in open-source software.
  • The ideal candidate has worked with real-world challenges developing and deploying software using Linux.
  • They have practical hands-on experience of Linux software packaging (including Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers).
  • The candidate understands current software packing issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem.
  • They have been a contributor to open-source communities, software and documentation.
  • As an engaging, vivacious speaker and presenter, they can effectively communicate ideas to various audiences.

You will be working closely with colleagues in other teams in the company to establish commonality and consistent approaches.

Your day-to-day tasks will involve:

  • Maintaining conversations with developer community members wherever they may be found.
  • Helping solve specific technical problems that users or colleagues have identified.
  • Contributing to technical documentation to ensure that developer users' needs are met there.
  • Working on technical articles, presentations or workshops.
  • Identifying new opportunities and directions for improvement in the developer experience we provide.
  • Presenting at conferences, meetups or technical events.
