Database Specialist Role

We are seeking a skilled Database Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our MySQL databases, ensuring they operate efficiently and effectively.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in database administration, with a strong focus on performance tuning, optimization, and maintenance. You will also support MS SQL Server operations, including regular maintenance, backup management, and performance monitoring.

You will set up proactive monitoring and alerts using Zabbix or similar tools to ensure database health. Additionally, you will troubleshoot and optimize slow-running or problematic database queries, resolve transaction-related issues, and design, implement, and test robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain MySQL databases, focusing on performance tuning, optimization, and maintenance
  • Support MS SQL Server administration, including regular maintenance, backup management, and performance monitoring
  • Set up proactive monitoring and alerts using Zabbix or other monitoring tools to ensure database health
  • Troubleshoot and optimize slow-running or problematic database queries
  • Resolve transaction-related issues such as deadlocks, hung transactions, and locking problems
  • Design, implement, and test robust backup and disaster recovery strategies
  • Collaborate with technical colleagues to resolve database-related challenges efficiently
Requirements
  • At least 3 years of hands-on MySQL administration experience
  • MS SQL Server administration background
  • Strong knowledge of storage engines (InnoDB vs MyISAM)
  • Proven expertise in query optimization and troubleshooting performance issues
  • Experience with deadlock resolution and transaction management
  • Backup/restore strategy implementation experience
  • Familiarity with Zabbix monitoring or similar tools
  • Clear communication skills to explain technical issues to non-specialists
  • Honest, proactive, and efficient approach to problem-solving
