Context

In the province of Lanao Del Sur, a major power plant operates in Angus-Pulangi Hydro Power Complex, however, the local area remains energy-poor with frequent power voltage drops from 220V to 100V. This crippling situation severely hampers hospitals' ability to deliver quality services during regular operations and more so during crisis situations like climate disasters and conflicts-induced calamities.

The UNDP has demonstrated the feasibility of renewable energy technologies in providing energy security and promoting its integration into the executive and fiscal agenda of local government units and agencies. In 2023, they installed a 23kwp rooftop solar panel system at Tamparan Provincial Hospital which served critical areas and equipment, showcasing the potential of RE systems in energy stability. However, this current system needs expansion.

Building upon this success, the Japan Government approved a project for the expansion of renewable energy facilities at Tamparan provincial hospital and three additional public health facilities to ensure reliable, affordable energy supply in the province's healthcare service facilities.
