Job Description

We are seeking a talented software engineer to join our team as a Junior Linux Kernel Developer. This role will involve working on the Linux kernel for Ubuntu, collaborating with a globally distributed team to develop and maintain high-quality software.

This is an excellent opportunity for recent university graduates or early career professionals to develop their skills in kernel-level software development, security updates, patching, and testing.

In this role, you will work closely with senior mentors to learn from their expertise and gain a deep understanding of the Linux kernel.

You will also be responsible for diagnosing and resolving issues in the kernel reported by customers, the community, and discovered by rigorous testing.

  • Main Responsibilities
  • Collaborate regularly with a globally distributed team.
  • Work closely with external silicon, cloud, or hardware manufacturer delivery teams.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in the kernel.
  • Develop and implement kernel patches.
  • Test and validate kernel releases.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have professional experience in programming languages such as C and/or Rust, familiarity with version control practices (ideally with git), and a strong understanding of operating system kernel fundamentals.

Additionally, you should possess excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, and be able to thrive in a remote work environment.
