Automation Architect

A Test Automation Architect is a senior-level role in software testing responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of test automation strategies, frameworks, and tools used to validate software applications efficiently and consistently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop enterprise-level automation frameworks for Web and API applications, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
  • Standardize test structure across teams using industry-standard tools like Selenium, Playwright, and JMeter.
  • Integrate AI/ML-based solutions to enhance test coverage, flakiness detection, and test prioritization, driving business value through data-driven insights.
  • Collaborate with developers to shift quality left and improve unit and integration test coverage, ensuring high-quality code.
  • Establish a strategy for transitioning legacy and manual test suites into fully automated execution, streamlining processes and reducing costs.
  • Embed test automation into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins) to enable rapid feedback on code quality and improve overall efficiency.
  • Define and monitor quality gates, enabling rapid feedback on code quality and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Work with DevOps and Engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of automated tests in deployment workflows, minimizing downtime and maximizing uptime.
  • Lead test strategy planning across regression, exploratory, integration, non-functional, and AI-based testing efforts, driving business outcomes through effective testing.
  • Define and enforce QE standards, tools, and reporting structures, ensuring consistency and efficiency across testing processes.
  • Drive governance to ensure performance and security tests are integrated where applicable, maintaining the highest level of quality and security.
  • Coach and mentor Test Automation and Performance Engineers in scalable, maintainable automation and AI-enhanced testing practices, fostering growth and development within the team.
  • Promote a quality-first mindset and continuous improvement across QA and development teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Review automation code and practices to ensure consistency, efficiency, and reliability, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
  • Define automation KPIs including test coverage, pass rates, execution time, and bug leakage rate, providing actionable insights for process optimization.
  • Provide data-driven reports and trend analysis to Engineering and Leadership teams, informing strategic decisions and driving business outcomes.
  • Enhance test observability through structured logging, dashboards, and test analytics, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the testing process.
