Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled security-focused software engineer to join our product engineering teams. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of our products.

Your primary focus will be on challenging our teams to think more deeply about security through state-of-the-art practices such as threat modeling, table-top exercises, architecture and design reviews, static analysis tools, and fuzzing, among others.

You will work closely with other Canonical teams, customers, and partners across the open source ecosystem to drive security within a wider Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.

This role requires excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work in a globally distributed team.

The successful candidate will have a strong academic track record, a thorough understanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities, and experience driving security within a wider SDLC process.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Academic Track Record: Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path
  • Security Experience: Thorough understanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities and how to fix them
  • Programming Skills: Skill in one or more of C, C++, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript/Typescript
  • Linux Experience: Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
