Backend Software Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer to play a critical role in designing, developing and maintaining robust backend systems and APIs that power scalable, high-performing applications.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Python, SQL and AWS technologies with additional expertise in geospatial data and observability tools. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless API integrations, reliable infrastructure and efficient workflows that support innovative software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design develop and maintain scalable high-performance backend systems and APIs.
  • Develop and manage public-facing APIs ensuring secure reliable and efficient access.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support continuous integration and deployment.
  • Implement observability practices using tools such as Datadog New Relic or similar.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers product teams and stakeholders to align backend architecture with product needs.
  • Work with PostgreSQL and PostGIS for advanced SQL and geospatial data management.
  • Develop and deploy solutions within AWS environments (API Gateway Lambda Serverless Stack).
  • Support microservices-based architectures and event-driven workflows e.g. webhooks.
Requirements:
  • 5 years of backend software development experience including building public-facing API products.
  • Strong programming skills in Python with expertise in frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
  • High proficiency in SQL and PostgreSQL with experience in geospatial extensions such as PostGIS.
  • Solid understanding of full-stack technologies required to build and run APIs.
  • Skilled in RESTful API design and management ensuring scalability and performance.
  • Hands-on experience working with AWS services including API Gateway Lambda and the Serverless Stack.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and event-driven technologies such as webhooks.
Nice to Have:
  • Familiarity with geospatial data formats such as GeoJSON shapefiles or KMZ.
  • Understanding of telecom or utility network planning and deployment workflows.
  • Experience with frontend frameworks such as React Vue or Angular (a plus).
  • Familiarity with Figma or other UI/UX prototyping tools.
