Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ship Construction Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our construction department, you will be responsible for constructing and repairing ships to meet the requirements of our clients. Your attention to detail, expertise in woodworking, and ability to work accurately under pressure will make you an invaluable asset to our team.

Key Responsibilities

• Constructing Keel and Bilge Blocks: You will be responsible for building keel and bilge blocks, cradles, and shoring for supporting ships in drydock, marine railways, shipways, or building docks using woodworking hand tools and power tools.
• Positioning and Securing Blocking: You will position and secure blocking and other structures on dock platforms according to ship's blueprints.
• Vessel Alignment: You will align vessels over blocks ensuring accurate positioning.
• Machinery and Equipment Installation: You will establish reference points and lines on ship's hull for locating machinery and other equipment in accordance with ship's alignment and shape.
• Fabrication and Installation: You will fabricate and install furring pieces, aprons, uprights, and other wood framing in ships.
• Wooden Spar and Mast Installation: You will shape, finish, and install wooden spars, masts, and cargo and boat booms, trims wooden frames and other timbers using broadax and adz.
• Metal Fitting and Bolting: You will spike or bolt metal fitting, plates, and bulkheads to wooden parts of ships using brace and bits, augers, mauls, and wrenches.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Shipbuilding, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in ship construction or repair.
• Excellent knowledge of woodworking, metalworking, and mechanical skills.
• Ability to read and interpret ship blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
