Web Engineering Manager

We are seeking a skilled Web Engineering Manager to work collaboratively with various teams and roles across the organization, including product managers and other engineering teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering reliable, scalable, and delightful user experiences for users of Canonical products.

About the Role
  • Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing to team goals and objectives.
  • Estimate work, set targets, and meet them through effective project management.
  • Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Web technologies or Flutter.
  • Identify and resolve issues encountered by users.
  • Participate in code and architectural reviews to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with community members and colleagues on technical specifications.
  • Contribute to technical documentation to enhance knowledge sharing and best practices.
  • Seek opportunities to improve engineering and operations practices.
  • Deploy and operate services developed by the team.
  • Drive product success through technical advocacy and support.
About You
  • You possess in-depth knowledge and passion for web and software development.
  • You value soft skills and demonstrate exceptional qualities such as being passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated.
  • An outstanding academic track record from both high school and university.
  • You hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field, or have a compelling narrative about your alternative path.
  • A proven track record of going above and beyond expectations, driven by a strong sense of accountability and responsibility.
  • You are well-organized, self-starting, and able to deliver results to schedule.
  • You maintain a professional manner when interacting with colleagues, partners, and community members.
  • Experience designing and writing high-quality Web technologies.
  • Proficiency in Typescript, React, or Flutter, with a passion for continued learning and growth.
  • An eye for accessibility and performance, ensuring seamless user experiences.
  • Fluency in professional written and spoken English.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation drive your approach to work.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with a focus on clear and concise messaging.
  • Results-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments and exceed expectations.
  • The ability to travel twice a year for company events, each lasting up to two weeks.
