Key Roles and Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated and experienced professional to fill the position of Web Engineering Manager.

As an Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that your team is growing and developing as web engineers, doing valuable work, and generally having a great time in their role. Your technical leadership and strong background in web development will be essential in challenging and growing your team members.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Contribute directly to your team's goals by demonstrating sound engineering principles
  • Estimate work, set targets, and meet them consistently
  • Design and implement well-tested and documented software using web technologies or Flutter
  • Debug and fix issues encountered by users
  • Participate actively in our engineering process through code and architectural reviews
  • Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
  • Contribute to high-quality technical documentation
  • Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices
  • Deploy and operate services developed by the team
  • Contribute to product success through technical advocacy
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • You have a solid understanding and passion for web and software development
  • Strong soft skills, including being passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated
  • A strong academic record from both high school and university
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field, or a compelling alternative narrative
  • Drive and a track record of going above and beyond expectations
  • Well-organised, self-starting, and able to deliver on schedule
  • Professional manner when interacting with colleagues, partners, and community
  • Experience designing and writing high-quality web technologies
  • Experience with Typescript, React, or Flutter
  • An eye for accessibility and performance
  • Proficient written and spoken English
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with container tech such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Experience building and maintaining a talented team
  • REST API design, development, and governance
  • Performance engineering and security experience
