Position Overview:

We are seeking a certified medical coder and auditor to join our organization. The specialist provides data and reports to management related to coding and claims for patient encounters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform audits and reviews of coding for accuracy and compliance with industry standards and guidelines.
  • Analyze and report coding trends and discrepancies to management.
  • Educate and train clinical and administrative staff on correct coding, documentation standards, and updates.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve coding-related issues and provide clarification as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate sequencing of ICD-9/10-CM codes, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
  • Stay up to date on current coding guidelines, payer rules, and regulatory changes.

Job Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two years of coding experience post-certification is required.
  • Certification in medical coding from AHIMA or AAPC is required.
  • Knowledge of insurance filing, coding, collections, and billing policies and procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of the ICD9/10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT-4/5 nomenclature, coding rules, and guidelines is required.
  • The ability to properly sequence ICD-9/10-CM codes is required.
  • An advanced understanding of medical terminology and body systems/anatomy and physiology and concepts of disease is required.
  • The ability to elicit cooperation from and work in a cooperative manner with professionals and non-professional associates is required.
  • Dependability in both production and attendance is required.
  • The ability to adapt to new software programs is required.

An ideal candidate would also have a bachelor's degree or equivalent and five or more years of experience in healthcare coding with certification.
