At Canonical, we are seeking a skilled engineer to lead our Rust programming efforts.

Rust Engineering Lead
  • We aim to drive the adoption of Rust in our software offerings, starting with Ubuntu and expanding to other projects and open-source initiatives.

To achieve this goal, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing well-tested and well-documented Rust software;
  • Advocating for Rust adoption within Canonical and upstream projects;
  • Identifying codebases that could benefit from Rust adoption;
  • Debugging and fixing issues encountered by users;
  • Participating in code reviews and architectural discussions;
  • Collaborating with colleagues on technical specifications;
  • Seeking improvements to engineering practices and operations;
  • In some cases, deploying and operating services developed by the team.

You will be successful in this role if you have:

  • An exceptional academic record from high school and university;
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field;
  • Experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs (for senior roles);
  • A proven track record of delivering results above expectations;
  • Excellent organizational skills, self-motivation, and ability to work independently;
  • The ability to interact effectively with colleagues and partners from diverse backgrounds;
  • Professional written and spoken English;
  • Experience designing and writing high-quality Rust software on Linux;
  • Experience with Linux at the system level;
  • Result-oriented with a strong personal drive to meet commitments;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability;
  • Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation.
