We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intellectual Property Lawyer to join our team at Monroe Consulting Group. The ideal candidate will have expertise in patent and trademark prosecution and management.

The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with inventors, creators, and technical teams to draft, file, and prosecute patent and trademark applications.

  • Our ideal candidate will conduct prior art and trademark clearance searches, draft responses to office actions, and manage their own docket of IP matters.
  • A strong organizational skillset is required to maintain a well-organized and compliant IP portfolio, adhering to Canadian and international regulations and deadlines.

Key Qualifications:

  • Law degree from a recognized Canadian law school is a plus but not required.
  • Admission to the Law Society of British Columbia (must be in good standing).
  • Qualification in another jurisdiction (e.g., the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) is a plus but not required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in intellectual property law, including patent and/or trademark prosecution, and enforcement.
  • Proven experience in drafting applications, responding to office actions, and managing prosecution deadlines.
  • Exposure to IP litigation, enforcement procedures, or alternative dispute resolution is highly valued.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in a scientific, technical, or creative field is highly preferred.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex technical or creative concepts.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to translate technical and legal concepts into actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, deadlines, and managing multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience coordinating with external counsel or managing external legal resources.
  • Understanding of international treaties and agreements (e.g., the Patent Cooperation Treaty, Madrid Protocol).
  • Strong research skills and adaptability to evolving legal and business landscapes.
