The Valuation Control function within Global Markets ensures that traded products are accurately recorded in HSBC's books and records in accordance with applicable accounting standards. This involves ensuring appropriate valuation of the traded products portfolio, understanding key Profit & Loss (P&L) drivers, assessing reasonableness of execution margins, and detecting inappropriate trading activity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production, analysis, explanation, and reporting of daily Trading profit and loss
- Review and investigation of daily exception reports, including intersystem reconciliations, trade activity monitoring, controls over accrual books, and hedge accounting
- Independent review, monitoring, and challenge across benchmark rate submissions made across the bank
- System administration and governance for the book opening process
- Assessment of reasonableness, propriety, and integrity of the balance sheet through reconciliation and substantiation
- Operational effectiveness of the Fair and Prudent Valuation Adjustments control framework review
- Preparation of reports required for regional and group reporting
To excel in this role, you should possess a degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Sciences, or Engineering from a top institution. You should demonstrate potential for growth, a willingness to take on new challenges, and strong planning, organizational, analytical, creative, communication, and interpersonal skills. Aspiring to professional qualifications such as CPA, CFA, or FRM will be an advantage. Flexibility and resilience are also essential.
