Job Overview

The Machinist Specialist is responsible for maintaining and operating steam turbines, reduction gears, and auxiliary machinery on board ships. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail.


Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and operate steam turbines and reduction gears used for ship propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrohydraulic steering engines, elevators, refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems, and desalinization plants.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, adjusting, testing, and replacing parts as needed.
  • Operate and maintain compressed gas producing plants.
  • Align piping systems for oil, water, air, and steam, and control the operation of ship boilers and steam turbines.
  • Monitor and analyze machinery operating records and reports to ensure optimal performance.

Requirements
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or degree preferred.
