Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Inpatient Medical Coder to join our team. As a Medical Coder, you will accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient hospital records. Your expertise will support accurate reimbursement, high-quality data reporting, and overall operational efficiency.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records to identify all relevant diagnoses and procedures.
  • Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes in accordance with current coding guidelines and facility requirements.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and data integrity to support appropriate reimbursement and quality reporting.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software efficiently to complete coding assignments.
  • Stay current with updates to coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory changes through ongoing education and research.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance by safeguarding patient health information at all times.
  • Collaborate with auditors and clinical staff to resolve documentation or coding discrepancies.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards as established by the organization.

Required Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Active coding certification: CCS (AHIMA) or CIC (AAPC) required.
  • At least 2 years of inpatient coding experience and proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems and strong knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines.
  • Experience using EHR systems and coding software.
  • Solid understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with keen attention to detail.
