We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Biller to join our team at Pointwest. As an Emergency Room Medical Biller, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of medical billing processes in our fast-paced emergency room setting.
About the Role
- Update patient medical records in the billing platform with precision and attention to detail.
- Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers with accuracy and timeliness.
- Verify and ensure the accuracy of patient information, procedure codes, and diagnosis codes to prevent claim rejections.
- Review supporting medical documentation before claim submission to guarantee correctness, completeness, and compliance with payer requirements.
- Resolve claim discrepancies, correct coding errors, and resubmit denied or rejected claims promptly to minimize delays.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding billing inquiries, outstanding balances, and available payment plans to maintain positive relationships.
- Post payments from insurance companies and patients to the appropriate accounts with accuracy and transparency.
- Reconcile patient accounts, issue refunds as necessary, and ensure accurate financial reporting to stakeholders.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and accounts to minimize aging accounts receivable and optimize revenue collection.
- Assist lead or supervisor in orienting, training, and mentoring staff to foster growth and development.
- Handle special projects as requested by management to demonstrate adaptability and flexibility.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as healthcare administration or business.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills to interact with patients, payers, and internal stakeholders.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in an emergency room or urgent care setting.
- Experience in popular EMRs and medical coding/billing platforms is an asset to streamline workflows.
- Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding, and insurance guidelines to navigate complex billing regulations.
- Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is a plus to demonstrate expertise.
