Underwriting analyst role overview

Key responsibilities
  • Provide medical underwriting risk assessments for group life and health coverage.
  • Manage the underwriting process, retention, and generic inbox to ensure items are processed or directed to team members based on geographic assignment.
  • Respond efficiently and effectively to requests to quotes from advisors.
Required qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience as a medical underwriter with knowledge of medical terminology or relevant experience in the healthcare field.
  • A bachelor's degree in a medical or healthcare-related field or an equivalent combination of education, additional certification, and experience.
Preferred qualifications
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in insurance and/or underwriting.
  • Good written skills and good verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to comprehend and act on presented customer concerns or problems.
  • Strong customer service skills (ability to build rapport, demonstrate empathy, and outline key steps in delivering good customer service).
