Electrical Installation and Maintenance Technician

The role of an electrical installation and maintenance technician is a vital part of ensuring the efficient operation and prolonged lifespan of electrical equipment.

  • Key responsibilities include assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
  • A critical aspect of this role is diagnosing malfunctioning equipment and systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to identify the root cause of a breakdown and implement corrective measures.
  • An essential task is connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • The technician must inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as mega-ohmmeters, voltmeters/clamp meter tester is crucial to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Installing ground leads and connecting power cables to equipment, such as motors and other equipment, involves placing conduit inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pulling insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
  • The technician must maintain good running condition of all electrical equipment at all times by being on-call even during off-hours and rest days.
  • Attending to electrical repairs and other requirements of other farms is a key responsibility.
  • Recommending and suggesting improvements as part of Department Quality Improvements activities is also essential.
  • Monitoring farm electrical load and ensuring that electrical usage does not exceed the maximum load threshold is crucial.
  • Conducting routine inspection of electrical equipment in operation, checking equipment operating parameters as prescribed, and initiating corrective measures on any abnormality is a vital function.
  • Troubleshooting causes and corrective measures for electrical variances is another critical task.
  • Compliance with quality, halal, health, and food safety policy, standards, and regulations is mandatory.

For success in this role, candidates should possess excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong analytical abilities. A high level of technical knowledge and hands-on experience in electrical installations and maintenance are also essential.
