Medical Coding Trainer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Medical Coding Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical coding and training, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Job Summary:

The Medical Coding Trainer is responsible for conducting medical coding education for new and existing medical coders. This includes developing modules for medical coding and billing training, creating curriculum and training syllabus, maintaining knowledge of ICD 10 CM, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines, and updating existing training modules.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Module Development: Assist in developing modules for medical coding and billing training (ICD 10 CM, CPT, E/M coding, Business of Medicine, Edit Resolution, and Revenue Cycle Management).
  • Curriculum Creation: Develop and maintain curriculum and training syllabus related to coding and billing training programs including but not limited to Periodic Updates, Policy updates, Peripherals of RCM, and Med-Metrix Learning Academy.
  • Coding Guidelines: Maintain knowledge of ICD 10 CM, ICD 10 PCS, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
  • Training Delivery: Provide training and review for onboarding coders and refresher training for tenured coders.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Consolidate coder scores from quizzes, exams and assessments and present consolidated data during weekly meetings.
  • Continuing Education: Maintain certifications of the staff by providing continuing education units.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with all workgroups to resolve issues that impact internal and external customers.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Certifications: CPC certification from AAPC or CCS certification from AHIMA.
  • Education: Graduate of any Medical or Allied Medical course or has equivalent work experience.
  • Coding Knowledge: Proficient with Revenue Cycle Management, E/M and Procedure Coding.
  • Communication Skills: Possess strong verbal, written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
