Overview:

Linux Kernel Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Linux kernel engineer to develop and maintain the Ubuntu Linux kernel. The successful candidate will work closely with a distributed team, collaborate on bleeding-edge platforms, and diagnose issues reported by customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team to develop and maintain the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
  • Work closely with external silicon, cloud, or hardware manufacturer delivery teams on cutting-edge platforms.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in the kernel reported by customers, the community, and discovered through rigorous testing.
  • Take ownership of delivering a flavor of the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
  • Improve tooling and automation for delivery and testing of Ubuntu Linux kernels.

Requirements:

  • Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other similar languages highly regarded.
  • Experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts, Linux preferred but not essential.
  • Solid background with git.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent written and spoken English with strong presentation skills.

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Strong grasp of device drivers, BSP's, and other low-level system engineering.
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, with direct Ubuntu/Debian/Snap experience highly valued.
  • Understanding of Linux kernel upstream processes and release cycle.
