About the Role

The Head of Consumer Underwriting is a critical role within PGA SOMPO INSURANCE CORPORATION, responsible for leading the underwriting department. The successful candidate will have a strong background in insurance, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to direct and motivate a team.

This role involves overseeing the signing of cover notes, policies, and other related documents. Additionally, the Head must prepare and recommend the Reinsurance Treaty Program to the management committee for approval.

The Head of Consumer Underwriting will also oversee the preparation and submission of regional office's reporting requirements and regulatory reports. Furthermore, the role requires the proper implementation of work processes and recommending changes or enhancements to promote better productivity and cost efficiency.

In this role, the Head of Consumer Underwriting will review evaluations made by underwriters on insurance applications and approve within given limits of authority. This includes initiating portfolio reviews in coordination with the Claims Department to determine the profitability profile per assigned lines.

The Head of Consumer Underwriting will conduct periodic reviews of underwriting guidelines and update as necessary. Additionally, the role involves updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 15 years in the insurance industry with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Completed advanced courses in various lines of non-life insurance
  • Licensed Underwriter in at least 3 of the major lines, i.e., Property, Marine, Casualty, Surety
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Proven management and leadership skills
