Financial Management Leader

We are seeking an experienced professional to oversee financial accounting and transaction processing as a key member of our remote team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Close & Month-End Management
    • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely completion and accurate results.
    • Review final profit & loss (P&L) scrub and approve journal entries prepared by staff.
    • Evaluate balance sheet accuracy and ensure source document filing is up-to-date.
    • Analyze and update financial notes, charts, graphs, and footnotes for alignment with KPIs and executive summaries.
    • Oversee preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
    • Identify discrepancies in financial reports through variance analysis.
    • Review staff-prepared financial statements and supporting schedules.
    • Maintain financial consistency across all reports and KPIs.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Management
    • Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts for real estate projects, including capital expenditures and operating costs.
    • Provide financial insights to support cost-saving initiatives and revenue growth.
    • Regularly update and maintain cash flow forecasts.
  • Tax Compliance & Regulatory Filings
    • Prepare and submit sales tax returns after controller review.
    • Coordinate, review, and submit annual 1099s.
    • Support preparation and submission of personal property tax filings reviewed by the controller.
    • Calculate monthly sales tax payments and submit them for controller review and remittance.
  • Accounting Operations & Oversight
    • Manage recurring weekly accounting processes as outlined by the controller.
    • Review customer invoicing, vendor bills, and process payments.
    • Approve and submit payroll.
    • Perform chart of accounts reviews and reclassify contributions/distributions to retained earnings as needed.
    • SUPERVISE AND MENTOR junior accounting staff to foster development in real estate accounting practices.
    • Collaborate with departments including property management, acquisitions, and finance to ensure effective financial operations and decision-making.
  • Process Improvement & Client Advisory
    • Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and provide actionable recommendations to clients.
    • Maintain strong financial integrity, proactively troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Tools, Communication & Task Management
    • Refine financial models and improve data structure in Excel.
    • Use Asana to manage tasks and track time entries with detailed descriptions.
    • Organize and manage the accounting email inbox to ensure timely and accurate handling of financial documents.
