DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs majority of routine dispensing.

Enters into the BIZBOX computer system patient-drug data on drug use, including prescribed medication identity and cost in order to maintain pharmacy files, charge system and inventory.

Participates in ward rounds, takes patient drug profiles and contributes to the monitoring of drug regimen, this includes highlighting a drug’s potential side effects, ADR’s, identifies harmful interactions with other drugs relaying these information to the medical practitioners.

Reviews narcotic and controlled drug prescriptions issued by physicians to assure accuracy and legitimacy.

Liaises with physicians, nurses and other fellow health care professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and economic drug treatment.

Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of dangerous drugs, and proper disposal of used vials in compliance with regulations and guidelines set by the governmental entities overseeing health-care delivery facilities and establishments.

Ensures that all medicinal products made available are stored appropriately and securely to ensure freshness and potency. In order to fulfill these, undertakes regular monthly drug ward stock inspection on all pertinent units within the hospital.

Responsible for the accurate dispensing and timely distribution of drugs and medicines for in-patients as well as out-patients

Counseling patients and/or their relatives, who may forward queries on the effects, dosage and route of administration of the drug treatments being received, particularly those with complex drug therapies.

Ensures that all medication reaches the patient in the correct form and dose – this may include tablets, capsules, ointments, injections, inhalers, creams. etc.

Responds to medication –related queries from within the hospital, whether these be from in-patients or from out-patients, as well as from all other healthcare professionals.

Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Receive delivery of medicines with appropriate purchase order.
Prepare receiving report of deliveries
Facilitate procurement of non-formulary medicines (emergency purchases)
Record the pharmacy operational time standards.
