We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to embed inside a US-based engineering team at a manufacturer of custom-engineered large capital equipment. Every unit this team builds is bespoke and engineered to order, and mechanical design sits at the front end of that process. You'll own 3D modeling and drawing creation—the team's biggest time sink—so their in-house engineers can stay focused on higher-level design work.
This is a senior individual-contributor seat for someone who can step in and produce right away. It's a real-time, collaborative role, not a batch or file-share handoff: you'll work US business hours (Central Time) alongside the in-house team, contributing to active design with live back-and-forth throughout the day. The bar is high—they need an experienced engineer who works independently, produces accurate work, and can be trusted quickly with minimal rework and supervision.
What You'll Do
3D Modeling & Drawings
- Build detailed 3D models of custom capital equipment in Autodesk Inventor
- Create manufacturing drawings and technical documentation to company standards
- Work concurrently within Autodesk Vault (PDM), using proper check-in/check-out workflows alongside the in-house engineering team
- Deliver accurate work that requires minimal rework and oversight
Project & Systems Coordination
- Manage job and project information within the company's ERP system
- Keep design records organized and current so the team always knows where projects stand
As the Function Grows
- Take on engineering calculations as your scope expands over time
What We're Looking For
Non-Negotiables
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience, with advanced proficiency in 3D modeling using Autodesk Inventor
- Extensive experience creating manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
- Ability to work concurrently in a PDM system (Autodesk Vault or equivalent) with check-in/check-out workflows
- Proven ability to own complex design work independently, with minimal rework and supervision
- Strong real-time communication and comfort with live collaboration during active design
Preferred Qualifications
- Autodesk Vault experience specifically
- Experience with engineer-to-order or custom capital equipment
- Familiarity with working inside an ERP for job or project management
- Ability to grow into engineering calculations over time
- Prior experience working remotely with US-based engineering teams
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
