Full Stack Engineer – Python, React & AI (Remote)

Cresco Australia is a multidisciplinary engineering and architecture consultancy that builds its own software. We need a senior, hands‑on full stack engineer to help build it.

This is a full‑time, fully remote role, working closely with our team in Australia. Your time will be split between SaaS product development and our internal project platform, our engineering calculation modules and the AI layer that runs across them.

What you'll build

• Front end: React and TypeScript, including interactive canvas interfaces (Konva), deployed on Vercel
• Back end: Amazon Web Services, async Python APIs with FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy and Alembic on PostgreSQL, with file storage on S3
• Data processing: PDF parsing, OCR, computational geometry and computer vision (pdfminer, OpenCV, Shapely)
• AI: LLM and vision‑language model integration with structured outputs, evaluation suites and measurable accuracy
• Integrations: third‑party APIs and long‑running external compute jobs
• Authentication and role‑based access using a managed identity provider (Clerk)
• File generation, including PDF and DXF

Across our other products

• Project platform: build features and integrations on our Python and PostgreSQL platform, which connects to our practice‑management, accounting and Microsoft 365 systems
• Frappe ERP, with a focus on Python as the key technology
• Engineering calculation modules: turn approved engineering methodology specifications into deterministic, well‑tested Python packages with typed APIs and JSON Schema contracts
• AI layer: build model‑agnostic LLM integrations with confidence thresholds, human approval, audit logging and a manual fallback when AI is unavailable

Across everything

• Own features end to end: design, implementation, tests, code review, deployment and production support
• Deploy and operate on AWS (App Runner, ECR, RDS, S3, CloudWatch) with Terraform, the front end on Vercel, and CI/CD on GitHub Actions
• Keep automated tests (pytest, Vitest), regression suites and release evidence current
• Engineering methods, factors and outputs are set and signed off by our engineers. Your job is to implement them exactly and prove it.

What you'll bring

Must-have

• 6+ years building and shipping production web applications, at senior level in both Python and React
• Python back end: FastAPI or a similar async framework, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy and database migrations
• React and TypeScript in production, including complex state and server‑data handling
• SQL and PostgreSQL: schema design, migrations and query performance
• AWS in production (container hosting, RDS, S3, logging and monitoring), working in a Terraform‑managed environment
• Self‑hosted server maintenance and management
• At least one LLM or vision‑model feature built and running in production, including structured outputs, evaluation and guardrails
• Disciplined automated testing, including regression suites that prove behaviour has not changed
• CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar), Docker and Linux
• Clear written English and reliable overlap with Australian Eastern business hours

Nice-to-have

• PDF parsing and computational geometry (for example pdfminer, Shapely, OpenCV, OCR)
• Object detection or computer‑vision model training and deployment
• CAD formats and libraries (DXF, ezdxf)
• Rhino / Grasshopper or Rhino Compute
• Engineering, construction or architecture industry experience, or numerical or scientific computing
• Integrating long‑running external compute jobs (queuing, polling, retries, result archiving)
• Vercel, and managed authentication (Clerk, Auth0, Entra ID or similar)
• Redis and server‑rendered Python web applications
• Designing an end‑to‑end test suite (Playwright or similar)
• Privacy‑and security‑aware development (Australian Privacy Act, ISO 27001 or similar)
• Working alongside external development partners: code review, acceptance testing and technical handover
• Shape a SaaS product on a modern Python, React and AWS stack
• Hard, real problems: AI accuracy, data quality and engineering correctness
• Work directly with leadership and the engineers who use what you build
• A team that treats AI as part of everyday engineering, not an experiment
