A Mechanical Designer/Drafter role where your SolidWorks work ships to the workshop floor, not a folder on a shared drive. This is a full-time, dedicated position embedded within a lean engineering team that builds custom waste and materials handling equipment, and the work you produce directly enables fabrication.
THE ROLE
As the Mechanical Designer/Drafter, you will take customer specifications and engineering concepts all the way from initial brief through to production-ready 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings. You will own the documentation pipeline, BOMs, revisions, PDM, and operate with the kind of practical autonomy that only comes when a team trusts your judgement. You will report directly to the Lead Mechanical Engineer and contribute meaningfully to every project deliverable.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Translate customer specifications and engineering concepts into production-ready 3D models using SolidWorks
- Produce detailed fabrication drawings suitable for manufacturing and workshop use
- Generate Bills of Materials and maintain accurate technical documentation throughout each project
- Manage drawing revisions and document control within the PDM system
- Work with a high degree of autonomy and practical judgement within a lean engineering team
- Report to and collaborate directly with the Lead Mechanical Engineer on project deliverables
WHAT YOU BRING
- Advanced SolidWorks proficiency as your primary design tool — this is non-negotiable
- Minimum four years of hands-on mechanical design and drafting experience
- Industry background in materials handling, wet processing, mining, or heavy equipment manufacturing
- Demonstrated ability to produce detailed, workshop-ready fabrication drawings
- Hands-on experience with a PDM system for BOM management, revision control, and document integrity
- The ability to work independently with sound engineering judgement, without requiring step-by-step direction
WORK ARRANGEMENT
This is a full work-from-home role. You will work from your own home office, and a quiet dedicated workspace with a reliable internet connection are mandatory requirements.

COMMITMENT
This is a full-time, dedicated role. The client and Staff X invest heavily in onboarding, training, and integrating this person into a long-term team. We are looking for someone ready to commit fully, not someone exploring a side arrangement, managing multiple clients, or running parallel freelance work. If you are currently freelancing and not ready to step into a single dedicated role, this is not the right opportunity for you. If you have a full-time job and are looking for a second income, please do not apply. The right person for this role genuinely wants a stable, long-term career with a single employer who invests in their growth. This is a permanent position. We hire people we intend to keep for years, not months.
