
Indigenous Service Support Officer

The role of the Indigenous Service Support Officer is to assist Youth Justice Service Centre staff to provide support and intervention services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people subject to youth justice intervention.
This is designated as an Identified role e.g. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples based on the genuine occupational requirements, in accordance with section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 , and the Recruitment and Selection (Directive 07/23).

As Indigenous Service Support Officer, You Will
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Assist and support youth justice staff and relevant community stakeholders in culturally appropriate assessment, case planning and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures, and contemporary best practice.
- Implement culturally appropriate individualised case plans through designing and implementing intervention strategies, negotiating with service providers, and linking clients to the services/supports they require (including formal and informal services, government and non-government agencies).
- Consult and effectively work with relevant stakeholders including families, elders, other key community members, community agencies and government departments to enhance the capacity of these stakeholders to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families subject to youth justice interventions and their families.
- Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including maintenance of case notes and records, preparation of reports and performance reporting.
- Participate productively and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team involving a range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality casework outcomes
- Successful applicants will be subject to either a criminal history check or a Blue Card screening.
- Successful applicants who are either a current or previous public sector employee will be required to disclose previous serious disciplinary history.
- Under section 571B of the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003, a prospective worker is required to disclose any pre-existing conditions. Specifically, if requested in writing, prospective employee must inform the employer before starting the job about any prior illnesses or injuries injuries that might affect their ability to perform the job duties or could worsen an existing condition.
- Your current resume detailing your previous work or voluntary experience including two referees who have a thorough knowledge of your conduct and performance over the past 2 years, or an appropriate period. One referee should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, skills and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities.
- Provide a short statement (of no more than two pages) telling us why you are interested in this role and outlining what your motivation is to join us.
- This should also summarise your skills, experience and achievements against the leadership competencies/capabilities and duties/responsibilities.
