Category Lead for Projects

The Category Lead for Projects & Services is a junior-level leadership role that is responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives aimed at optimizing projects and services management within the organization. The incumbent is expected to deliver cost-savings, manage risks and create value for the organization by utilizing relevant strategic sourcing and category management strategies.
This position entails an in-depth understanding of market trends, competitive landscape, and consumer preferences to drive category performance, enhance profitability, and support overall business objectives.
WHAT IS THE JOB LIKE?- Category Strategy Development: Define and execute the procurement strategy for projects and services, ensuring alignment with the company's overall business objectives.
- Project Oversight: Lead procurement activities for key projects and services, ensuring seamless execution from inception to completion. Work closely with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
- Market Intelligence & Benchmarking: Stay informed of market trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in the project management and services space. Leverage this knowledge to drive continuous improvement and competitive advantage.
- Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and service providers, negotiating contracts, terms, and conditions to ensure quality, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Procurement: Develop and execute procurement plans to meet business requirements, including RFPs, RFQs, and direct purchasing.
- Category Analytics: Analyze spend data, identify opportunities for cost savings, and develop reporting to measure category performance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Finance, Operations, Legal, etc.) to ensure alignment and transparency in procurement decisions and project execution.
- Process Improvement: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify process improvements and implement changes to optimize category management processes.
- Budgeting and Cost Optimization: Monitor and manage budgets related to projects and services, identifying opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and efficiencies.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with procurement of projects and services, and develop strategies to mitigate them. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to drive continuous improvement in category management.
- Other tasks: Perform other related functions that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor and the Director for Procurement.
- Required: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering; Licensed Civil Engineer; Desired: a master's degree in engineering management, supply chain management or business management or relevant professional certification such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or PMP (Project Management Professional).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction management, category management, procurement, or project management.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience working with data to drive business decisions and with the ability to evaluate supplier performance and optimize processes.
- Strong experience in negotiating and managing contracts, especially within the context of services and project-based work.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement category strategies that drive value.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leaders and external suppliers.
- In-depth knowledge of market trends and best practices in procurement and project delivery.
- Familiarity with procurement software and tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Ariba) is a plus.
- Strong leadership, team-building, and coaching skills.
