Job DescriptionDescription

Customer Service:

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Answer customer inquiries about products, prices, availability, and promotions.
  • Provide product recommendations and assist customers in finding specific items.
  • Operate the cash register, process transactions, and handle cash, credit card, or digital payments.
  • Encourage and promote store sales, promotions, and loyalty programs.
  • Upsell or cross-sell products based on customer needs.

Store Presentation and Merchandising:

  • Ensure the store is visually appealing by maintaining organized shelves and displays.
  • Assist in replenishing stock on the sales floor and ensuring that items are correctly priced.
  • Help set up product displays, ensuring they are well-maintained and aligned with store standards.

Stock Management:

  • Receive, unpack, and organize incoming stock shipments.
  • Keep track of inventory and notify supervisors when stock is low.
  • Help with inventory counts and ensure stock levels are accurate.

Store Cleanliness and Maintenance:

  • Maintain a clean and tidy store environment, including aisles, fitting rooms, and restrooms.
  • Follow safety protocols to ensure the store is free of hazards for customers and employees.
  • Be vigilant for signs of theft or suspicious activity and follow store policies to report concerns.
  • Assist in monitoring security systems or conduct regular checks of store areas.
  • Work closely with other retail assistants and managers to achieve sales targets and ensure smooth store operations.
  • Support team members during busy periods, such as peak shopping times or promotions.

Handling Returns and Exchanges:

  • Process returns or exchanges according to company policy.
  • Resolve customer issues or complaints in a calm and professional manner.
Requirements
  • Minimum Education: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is typically required.
  • Additional Education: Some employers may prefer candidates who have taken courses in business, marketing, or retail management, but this is not always necessary.

Experience:

  • Previous Retail Experience: Not always required for entry-level positions, but prior experience in retail, customer service, or hospitality is often preferred.
  • Experience with POS Systems: Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash handling, or register operation is beneficial.

    • Accuracy in tasks like inventory management, restocking shelves, pricing items, and processing transactions.
    • Being able to keep the store organized and visually appealing is important for customer experience.
  • Multitasking:
    • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities at once, such as assisting customers while managing stock or processing payments.
  • Basic Math Skills:
    • Competence in handling cash, processing transactions, and calculating discounts or totals accurately.
  • Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Ability to handle customer complaints or issues effectively, offering solutions that align with store policies.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, walk around the store, or lift light to moderate weights (typically up to 25-50 pounds).
    • Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle products, boxes, or equipment and organize shelves efficiently.
  • Flexibility and Availability:
    • Flexible Hours: Retail Assistants are often expected to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, based on store hours and peak periods.
    • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
