Job Description
Shift: Night Shift
The Reinsurance Accountant will assume primary responsibility for all aspects of accounting for assigned reinsurance contracts.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain the accuracy of premium information on reinsurance contracts including endorsements, premium adjustments and cash allocations.
  2. Maintain all aspects of reinsurance contracts including bordereau reporting, claim payments and cash allocations.
  3. Monitor aging of accounts receivable.
  4. Monthly bordereaux reconciliation and data integrity checks.
  5. Prepare monthly/quarterly working papers for journal entries to record activities for the accounting close process.
  6. Review and analysis of cash receipts, payments and applications.
  7. Prepare monthly/quarterly reinsurance account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of the general ledger.
  8. Assist in the preparation of reinsurance cession statements, US GAAP and Statutory reports, regulatory filings, and audits.
  9. Track deliverables and ensure compliance with prescribed due dates.
  10. Other projects and/or tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  3. The ability to communicate effectively with individuals.
  4. Strong work ethic and the ability to take initiative to work without supervision.
  5. Technical knowledge of reinsurance terms, contracts, and cash settlement practices.
  6. Ability to use initiative and self-manage to resolve issues independently.
  7. Strong computer skills, in particular, proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications, primarily Excel.
  8. Ability to grasp new concepts, systems and applications quickly and efficiently.
  9. Candidates need to be flexible with their schedule since shift may change depending on the needs of the team.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  1. The ability to read and understand reinsurance contracts.
  2. Experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry.
  3. Financial reporting experience within a SOX and SEC regulated environment.
  4. CPA highly preferred.
