Project Engineer for Construction

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct Safety Inspections: Regularly inspect construction sites to identify potential hazards, ensure compliance with safety standards, and recommend corrective actions.
  2. Enforce Safety Regulations: Ensure that all workers and contractors follow safety protocols, regulations, and guidelines, including Occupational Safety and Health standards and Maynilad safety policies.
  3. Safety Training and Awareness: Provide safety orientation and educational programs for workers on topics like safe operation of machinery, PPE usage, and hazard awareness.
  4. Monitor PPE Usage: Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is used correctly by all personnel on-site, and provide additional PPE when necessary.
  5. Accident and Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, injuries, or near-miss incidents to determine causes, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  6. Safety Meetings: Organize and lead regular safety meetings and safety briefings with Contractors to promote safety awareness and address concerns.
  7. Assist with Risk Assessments: Help identify potential risks on construction sites and work with the team to develop mitigation strategies.
  8. Maintain Safety Records: Keep accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and compliance audits for legal and regulatory purposes.
  9. Promote a Safety Culture: Encourage a culture of safety among workers by promoting open communication, reporting safety concerns, and continuously improving safety practices.
  10. Monitor Site Conditions: Ensure that worksite conditions meet safety standards, such as proper signage, clear walkways, and safe equipment handling.
  11. Emergency Response Preparedness: Assist in developing and practicing emergency response plans for accidents, fires, and other emergencies on the construction site.
  12. Liaise with Supervisors and Contractors: Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other site supervisors to ensure safety protocols are being followed consistently across the project.
  13. Attend project meetings as needed: Particularly when health, safety, and environmental concerns are discussed.
  14. Perform other related tasks as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred). Certification in Construction Safety or a related discipline.

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 1-3 years of experience in construction safety or a related field. Experience working on construction sites is highly beneficial.

CERTIFICATION

30-Hour Construction Occupational Safety & Health (COSH) training certification from DOLE accredited or recognized organization. First Aid and CPR certification.

KNOWLEDGE

Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, safety codes, and construction safety standards. Knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safe handling procedures. Familiarity with construction site hazards and safety management systems.

SKILLS

Strong communication skills for effectively delivering safety training and conducting safety briefings. Ability to communicate and collaborate with foreign contractors and consultants. Attention to detail and the ability to spot potential safety hazards. Ability to conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments. Proficiency with safety management software (including Microsoft Office), reporting tools, and maintaining accurate safety records.

Ability to work well in a team and promote a safety-first culture. Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to remain calm and focused during safety emergencies and incidents. Ability to work on construction sites, which may involve exposure to outdoor environments. High customer service orientation.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid driver's license (for site visits and travel to different locations).

WORKPLACE RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT

EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE USED

Computer w/ Microsoft Office, inspection measuring devices, personal protective equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS and OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Occupation will require frequent project site inspection and occasional visits to busy and dangerous roads/areas, high rise or deep vertical facilities where projects are located. Coordination meetings/plant visits with Project Stakeholders outside Maynilad Office. Work may require occasional overnight/weekend/evening travels.
