Senior Database Administrator

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to be an integral part of the DBA Operations team. The senior DBA position plays a crucial role in the continuous delivery of our database operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement fault-tolerant MongoDB/MSSQL solutions using highly availability patterns for scalability and stability in on-premises and in Cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Proven experience with MongoDB scaling across data centers and/or in-depth understanding of MongoDB HA strategies, including replica sets and sharding.
  • Deploying, migrating data, monitoring, analyzing, and tuning MongoDB/MSSQL
  • Manage and maintain multiple database servers across multiple environments (MongoDB/MSSQL/Cosmos)
  • Design & implement redundancy and fail-over strategies
  • Monitor and tune query performance
  • Design, deploy and manage the Microsoft SQL and MongoDB solutions in Cloud (Azure/GCP/AWS)
  • Monitor and maintain database health, performance and security
  • Monitor and maintain SQL server and MongoDB Mirroring, Log shipping, backups, ETL SSIS jobs.
  • Provide SQL Server and MongoDB administration in MS SQL Server 2016 and above, MongoDB 5 and above
  • Plan and implement database backup strategies and perform recovery in case of disaster
  • Respond to database and user problems, and provide guidance to junior level DBA
  • Analyze SQL query plans, suggest and implement solutions to support developers in development and production environments
  • Install, configure and upgrade database management systems and software including clustering environment
  • Refine and automate security lockdown processes using T-SQL and PowerShell DSC
  • Respond to service requests and troubleshoot issues as needed
  • Assist with customer implementations and upgrades
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly meetings
  • Perform maintenance related activities during scheduled weekend maintenance windows
  • Participate in capacity management, expansion and growth planning
  • Develop and document best practices for maintenance, monitoring, migration, and fail-over strategies

What skills/attributes are a must have:

  • 10+ years' experience with multiple database platforms primarily for MongoDB/MSSQL in cloud and secondary support for NOSQL DBs like Cosmos
  • 10+ years track record of operational excellence managing large scale databases
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in Mongo DB and MS Sql
  • Excellent communication skills, a keen attention to detail
  • Passion for learning new technology and building high quality, scalable solutions.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills. A big part of this role will be diagnosing issues that may not have happened in the past and they will be expected to investigate, understand, and come up with solutions to resolve them.
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud platform is must, AWS and Azure is plus.
  • Must be able to exercise judgment within defined procedures to determine appropriate action.
  • Must have strong organizational and multi-tasking skills to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of various high availability and disaster recovery solutions (Sharding/AlwaysOn, Clustering, etc)
  • Cloud certifications or an interest in pursuing certification is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of DB performance/scaling concepts and tuning best practices
  • Highly self-motivated with the desire to embrace new database technologies and must be able to work independently or within a team in a high demand and dynamic environment.
  • Strong team player with excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment with a broad scope of responsibilities
  • Strong communication skills. Comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders
