Purpose of the position

Functional operation in Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, Community Engagement and leadership in the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences.

Minimum requirements
  • A Master's degree (NQF level 9) in Biochemistry.
  • A minimum of 2 years' teaching and learning experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in developing scientific procedures and techniques used in a biochemistry laboratory.
Recommendations / Added advantages
  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Biochemistry.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in postgraduate mentoring and training.
  • Registration with the South African Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SASBMB).
Key functional / technical competencies
  • Advanced knowledge of general biochemistry and human-related molecular
  • Proven competency in basic molecular techniques such as DNA isolation, PCR and Western blotting
  • Ability to lecture introductory and advanced biochemistry on a tertiary level with a focus on teaching molecular biology and clinical biochemistry
  • Capacity to learn various teaching philosophies and adapt teaching and learning approaches as required
  • Excellent computer skills for teaching and learning, administration and research dissemination
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to function as part of a team and in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Good time management
Remuneration

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
