Trade Compliance Senior Advisor

Global import-export in the world of ground-breaking technology is a complicated business. It takes real attention to detail to comply with all U.S. and regional import and export regulations. Our Global Trade Compliance provides trade compliance support for end-to-end order management and delivery processes, including consulting on United States and regional import/export compliance regulations, end user screening, new product and technology export reviews, Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) and Export Classification Control Number (ECCN) product classification, export transaction approvals, international documentation, and customs broker management as well as assessing global trade risk and providing mitigation strategies.

As a Trade Compliance Senior Advisor, you will lead complex import/export activities for the Philippines.

What you'll achieve

The successful candidate will have the chance to work with trade experts from multiple countries with in-depth knowledge across all areas of trade compliance, from assessing global trade risk and providing mitigation strategies to delivering strategic and tactical support in developing international supply chains, to implementing strategies to reduce import expenses, and to auditing all documentation. The candidate will be able to influence Dell's future policies on managing trade compliance at a country, regional, and global level. The candidate will have a chance to obtain global content knowledge by leveraging content experts on country-specific requirements and its practical applications.

You will:

  • A good Import and Export professional with a minimum of 8+ years of experience in the related field, preferably having worked for a multinational company in a trade compliance function.
  • Lead complex import/export activities for defined countries or regions. Work directly with freight forwarders/customs brokers to provide paperwork and relevant information to partners/customers.
  • Be a subject matter expert and responsible for escalations with local customs or tax authorities. Ensure compliance with more complex regulations involving specific region or country laws/regulations.
  • Focus on import/export compliance across all lines of business for all policies, customs regulations, processes, and system changes regarding field inventory and logistics management, holding greater accountability for coaching and mentoring team members.
  • Interact with senior compliance counterparts in various countries to present relevant reporting on performance measures and business operations. Make key decisions on daily activities and provide input into strategic decisions to implement solutions after manager sign-off.
  • Apply job knowledge in resolving escalated issues. Have advanced knowledge of handling export compliance, export licensing, and order screening.

Essential Requirements

  • 8+ years of direct import and/or export compliance experience in a major corporation, service company, or law firm with a Bachelor's degree; or 6+ years with a Master's degree; or 3+ years with a PhD; or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of customs compliance regulations; Advanced understanding of the complexities and requirements of international business; Advanced ability to interpret and conceptualize guidelines of customs compliance.
  • Knowledge of Philippines commodity policies.
  • Demonstrated skills in resolving complex compliance/business requirements; Analytical skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to anticipate problems and diffuse situations.
  • The ability to function both as a team member and individual contributor with the ability to shift priorities as required by the global trade compliance team and business operations.
  • Strong project management and computer skills (emphasis on Microsoft Office programs) are required, with fluency in PowerPoint preferred.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional fluency in one or more local non-English languages is preferred; Excellent interpersonal skills in both written and oral communication.

Desirable Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related majors such as Law, International Trade, Logistics, or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Advanced degree is preferred (MBA, Law, International Trade, Logistics, etc.).
