Job Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and forward-thinking Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the overall technical vision and leadership of the company's software development. The CTO will be responsible for overseeing all technological aspects of the company, with a specific focus on cloud architecture, data architecture, platform design and development, and ensuring the continuous evolution and maintenance of our core insurance claims reporting and repair system. The CTO must have expert cloud architecture and programming skills as the CTO will be responsible for scoping, designing and developing the next phases of the platform.

This role demands a "born-in-the-cloud", forward-thinking leader who is knowledgeable in the latest cloud-based architecture, with specific familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment, Firebase, Python and Javascript, which are critical in the design and continuous enhancement of the core system.

The successful candidate will be joining an InsurTech startup with operations across multiple markets in Asia and a strong growth trajectory.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cloud Architecture & Platform Development and Maintenance:
  • Lead the system design and development as "Head Programmer" of the current GCP-based cloud insurance claims and adjudication platform.
  • Manage external resources for executing the development roadmap and build internal resources for strategic development activities we will bring in-house.
  • Lead the team in building, deploying, and managing next-generation systems and platforms to support the company's growth.
2. Technology Strategy & Innovation:
  • Develop and implement a forward-thinking platform strategy that aligns with the company's long-term business goals in improving the customer experience in the insurance industry.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies, systems, and trends to drive innovation within the company and reduce costs, simplify interactions or improve service levels.
  • Foster a culture of innovation by encouraging experimentation and the integration of new technologies into business processes.
3. Leadership & Team Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing technology team to support the agreed development roadmap, fostering an environment of collaboration, growth, and innovation.
  • Drive recruitment, development, and retention of top-tier technical talent, building a diverse and capable team.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, ensuring the team stays updated with the latest advancements in cloud computing, software development, and system architecture.
4. System & Platform Development:
  • Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle of the company's platforms, ensuring that they meet the evolving needs of the business.
  • Collaborate with product management and other departments to identify and prioritize system enhancements and features. Have a strong bias towards delivering the best customer experience through our platforms and systems.
  • Ensure that the platforms are secure, reliable, and perform optimally under varying load conditions while balancing platform costs / avoiding over-provisioning.
  • Drive the adoption of agile methodologies across the organization to ensure quick and iterative releases of platform features.
5. Security & Risk Management:
  • Ensure the highest standards of data security and ISDP practices are applied to all cloud-based systems and end-points.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce cybersecurity policies and best practices to protect against data breaches, cyberattacks, and system failures.
  • Oversee risk assessments and disaster recovery planning for all technological infrastructures.
6. Budgeting & Cost Management:
  • Develop and manage the technology budget, balancing innovation with cost efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize infrastructure costs while maintaining system performance.
  • Evaluate technology investments and ensure a high ROI, particularly in cloud services and platform-related expenses.
7. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and executive leadership to align technology initiatives with broader company objectives.
  • Communicate complex technical strategies and updates clearly to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring transparency in technology decisions.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and provide technological insights to support decision-making processes across departments.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect) are mandatory.
  • Experience:
  • 7+ years of experience in technology leadership, with specific expertise in cloud architecture and platform development.
  • Proven track record in leading cloud platform development, system design, and managing cloud infrastructure at scale.
  • Experience in software development, system integration, and DevOps practices.
  • Strong leadership experience in managing technology teams and driving organizational change.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms (Google Cloud) and cloud architecture design.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, API integration, and serverless computing.
  • Expertise in scalable systems, platform optimization, and data security best practices.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or Go, and frameworks like Node.js or Spring Boot.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
