Role purpose

The Logistics (including Storage and Warehouse) and Imports Lead manages the entire import and distribution process. This role ensures efficient import operations, warehouse management, and logistics coordination. Key responsibilities include vendor management, optimizing storage and transportation, and maintaining regulatory compliance. The position aims to streamline the supply chain, reduce costs, and ensure timely delivery of goods.

Role Accountabilities

Import Operations and Compliance

  • Oversee and manage the end-to-end import process ensuring all necessary documentation, customs clearance, and compliance with import regulations, collaborating with customs brokers and government agencies to resolve any issues.

Logistics and Transportation Management

  • Coordinate logistics activities to ensure efficient movement of goods from port of entry to the warehouse, and ultimately to the end customer.
  • Monitor shipments in transit and resolve any issues related to delays, damages, or customs holds.
  • Optimize transportation routes, schedules, and methods to minimize costs while ensuring timely delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, and logistics providers, negotiating contracts and rates as necessary.

Vendor and Partner Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external vendors such as freight forwarders, customs brokers, logistics providers, and warehousing suppliers.
  • Negotiate rates, terms, and contracts with logistics, warehouse, and import service providers to ensure cost-effective services and reliable supply chain.
  • Regularly evaluate vendor performance ensuring adherence to service standards, service quality, reliability, adherence to timelines, and cost-effectiveness.

Warehouse Operations and Inventory Management

  • Oversee warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, and inventory management to ensure accurate stock levels.
  • Implement inventory control procedures to minimize stock discrepancies and reduce obsolescence.
  • Work closely with the inventory and planning teams to align stock levels with demand forecasts, ensuring adequate supply without overstocking, optimize stock levels and minimize storage costs.
  • Track and report on logistics and warehousing costs, aiming to identify areas for cost reduction while maintaining service levels.

Process Improvement and Efficiency

  • Lead or participate in projects focused on optimizing logistics, optimizing warehouse and storage space, and improving delivery timelines.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline logistics, warehouse, and import processes to enhance operational efficiency, improve accuracy, and reduce lead times.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects in logistics and warehouse operations, using data and performance metrics to support decisions.
  • Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives in logistics and import operations.

Budget Management

  • Oversee and ensure adherence to the allocated budget for Supply Chain for the fiscal year. Responsible for tracking, managing, and reporting actual expenses in monthly financial reports, ensuring that expenditures remain within the approved budget limits.
  • Validate supplier billings.

Reporting and Performance Metrics

  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) across logistics, warehousing, and import operations, such as on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, transportation costs, and compliance rates.
  • Prepare regular reports for management to provide insights into supply chain performance, identifying trends, risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for any recurring issues in logistics, warehousing, or imports.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, International Business, or a related field required. Master's degree in a related field is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, imports, or supply chain management.
  • Strong understanding of import regulations, customs procedures, warehousing operations, and transportation logistics.
  • Demonstrated experience in customs compliance and warehouse management is essential.
  • Experience in international trade is a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and other logistics software.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Data-driven approach to process optimization and performance analysis.
  • Proven ability to negotiate effectively with vendors and logistics partners, fostering strong collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
  • Adaptable and resilient, with a strong commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and drive process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
