About Us

Hill Water Publishing creates romance novels that celebrate true love. Every story we release must deliver emotional depth, irresistible tropes, and a satisfying happily-ever-after. We're seeking an experienced Romance Editor who knows how to strengthen stories without losing the author's voice — and who understands what makes a romance novel binge-worthy.

The Role

As our Romance Novel Editor, you'll guide manuscripts from draft to polished novel. You'll elevate characters, refine emotional arcs, and sharpen pacing so readers never want to put the book down. This is a hands-on editorial role for someone fluent in the romance market, its tropes, and its expectations.

What You'll Do
  • Developmental & Line Editing: Strengthen pacing, characterization, and trope delivery while maintaining voice.
  • Scene Drafting: Write seamless new material when needed, matching the author's style.
  • Copyediting: Ensure every line is clean, consistent, and immersive.
  • Genre Coaching: Keep heat levels, payoffs, and beats aligned with contemporary romance expectations.
  • Collaboration: Deliver feedback via tracked changes, editorial letters, and occasional live calls.
  • Multi-Project Management: Balance multiple manuscripts while maintaining high editorial standards.
What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of professional editing experience in contemporary romance.
  • 3+ published romance novels edited (please provide ISBNs or retailer links).
  • Strong ghostwriting or scene drafting experience.
  • Advanced command of grammar, dialogue pacing, and formatting.
  • Ability to spot sagging middles, sharpen arcs, and elevate tropes.
  • A deep love for romance — you know the difference between a HEA and a HFN, and why it matters.
Compensation & Logistics
  • Fully remote, long-term contract role.
  • Trial period (compensated).
How to Apply

Send a message to the Hill Water Publishing LinkedIn page with the following information:

  • A short introduction (300 words or fewer).
  • Links to three romance books you've edited.
  • A brief note about your favorite romance trope and why it's your favorite.
  • Apply now to help us refine stories of love, passion, and happily-ever-afters.
