Job Summary

The Senior Writer leads the creation of impactful written content for the Philippine Red Cross (PRC). You will craft press releases, articles, and official documents to showcase PRC's humanitarian efforts, build public trust, and drive engagement. The role calls for strong public relations skills (liaising with media, partners, internal/external stakeholders) and website/SEO expertise to maximize reach. You will also provide editorial leadership by mentoring junior writers and ensuring message consistency. This position is ideal for an experienced professional passionate about storytelling and humanitarian work.

Key Responsibilities:

Editorial Leadership & Content Creation

  • Write and edit press releases, articles, speeches, and newsletters reflecting PRC objectives.
  • Produce compelling human-interest stories spotlighting beneficiaries, volunteers, and initiatives.
  • Establish writing guidelines; mentor junior writers, reviewing their work to maintain quality and consistency.

Public Relations & Media Coordination

  • Serve as the primary media contact—draft press statements, handle crisis communications, and Q&As.
  • Build/maintain relationships with journalists, news outlets, and community partners.
  • Coordinate press conferences and media briefings; ensure timely, accurate dissemination of information.
  • Monitor news coverage, track public sentiment, and propose strategies to strengthen PRC's visibility and reputation.

Social Media & Digital Platforms

  • Develop social media content for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, etc., to engage the public and donors.
  • Perform basic photo/video editing, ensuring brand consistency across digital platforms.
  • Track content performance metrics (open rates, engagement), recommending improvements for PRC's online presence.
  • Collaborate with web admins to update website copy; align with brand messaging.
  • Optimize web content with SEO (keywords, meta descriptions) to drive organic traffic and measure outcomes.

Website & SEO Management

  • Coordinate with the IT/Web team to maintain an updated, user-friendly website aligned with PRC goals.
  • Conduct keyword research and implement on-page SEO best practices for improved site visibility.
  • Audit website content regularly for accuracy, accessibility, and brand consistency.

Project & Campaign Support

  • Collaborate with cross-department teams (e.g., Health Services, Disaster Management) for promotional/advocacy materials.
  • Provide persuasive copy for fundraising campaigns (e.g., donor appeals, project proposals).
  • Oversee layout and proofing of quarterly publications for error-free, visually engaging content.

Internal & External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate with chapters, service heads, and field operations for real-time updates on PRC services.
  • Foster relationships with donors, corporate partners, and government agencies, offering timely content and support.
  • Represent PRC's Communications Office at editorial or stakeholder meetings, upholding organizational values.

Team Management & Mentorship

  • Supervise information writers, interns, and editorial staff; provide training to improve writing and research skills.
  • Promote innovation and knowledge-sharing, staying current on best practices in journalism, PR, and marketing.
  • Ensure accountability and efficiency, meeting deadlines and quality standards.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • A Master's degree is a plus.

Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive work in public relations, journalism, or communications—preferably in NGOs/humanitarian settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership or editorial experience, managing projects or supervising junior writers.
  • Proven success writing press releases, working with media outlets, and executing PR campaigns.
  • Familiarity with SEO (keyword research, meta tags) and CMS (WordPress or similar).

Technical Skills

  • Outstanding writing/editing ability (English/Tagalog).
  • Knowledge of photo/video editing (Photoshop, Premiere) and DSLR basics.
  • Proficiency in social media strategy and metrics analysis.
  • Expertise in creating press releases and maintaining media relations.
  • Acquainted with digital analytics tools (Google Analytics).
