Work Set Up: WFH

The Underwriter is responsible for merchant applications for US and Canada, merchant maintenance, fraud mitigation and other operational duties as needed. The ideal candidate possesses leadership qualities, has an underwriting/risk mindset, is highly motivated, a self-starter, and has the drive to identify, develop, and improve process workflows with the idea of betterment for the business and customer.

What does a day in the life of an Underwriter look like?

• Review new merchant applications for risk assessment using multiple tools and website search.

• Assist with reviewing daily risk and transactional alerts for First Data, Cynergy, TSYS, and Worldpay processing platforms; remediates, when applicable.

• Assist with investigating merchants with escalated alerts and concerns, notating action taken (i.e. 100% reserve or account termination) within the Merchant Record and completing a risk review, sending to management/executive review if required.

• Analyze underwriting documentation in intense detail to ensure submitted merchant supporting documents are valid.

• Work closely with bank partners/industry associations to stay on top of ongoing industry trends.

• Communicate with sales on pending and missing applications information, to ensure all submitted applications are fully completed with accurate information.

• Conduct special portfolio reviews and projects as assigned.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

What are the required qualifications for an Underwriter?

• 3-5+ years merchant services experience in an operational/underwriting role.

• In-depth understanding of all aspects of the payments industry.

• Experience working with large acquirer relationships and their internal reporting platforms (TSYS US and Canada, First Data, Elavon) or similar platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong understanding of payment rules, regulations, and industry standards.

• A team player who can also function well independently.

• Experience in a small/medium sized payments company with limited staff and resources.

• Demonstrated project management skills and excellent verbal/written communication skills.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
