Overview
PhD Project in Philosophy of Science: Philosophical Perspectives on Animal Models in Translational Neuroscience. Based at the Department of Science Education, Section for History and Philosophy of Science, University of Copenhagen. The project is part of the TRANSCEND MSCA Doctoral Network and involves a 36-month full-time PhD fellowship with a secondment abroad.
Responsibilities- Carry through an independent research project under supervision at the host institution
- Complete PhD courses corresponding to approximately 30 ECTS / 1/2 FTE
- Participate in active research environments, including a stay at one or more research institutions abroad
- Teaching and knowledge dissemination activities (approximately 1/2 FTE)
- Write scientific papers aimed at high-impact journals
- Write and defend a PhD thesis based on the project
- To be eligible, you must have completed a degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (180 ECTS/3 FTE BSc + 120 ECTS/2 FTE MSc) related to the project area (e.g., history and philosophy of science, philosophy, anthropology, psychology, science and technology studies, or a related field)
- Applicants who have previously completed a PhD degree cannot apply
- Additional training and experience with qualitative methods is strongly preferred
- Mobility Rule: applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the start
- Doctoral Candidate requirement: applicant must not hold a doctoral degree on the first day of employment
- Secondments are planned with co-supervisor at Radboud University, NL, and optionally at the University of Porto, Portugal
- Curious mindset with interest in practice-oriented philosophy of science
- Good English skills (written and spoken)
- Desirable: basic knowledge of or strong interest in animal experimentation practices
- Advantage: experience with teaching philosophy of science to science students
- Ability to work well in research groups and collaborate
Full-time PhD fellow position for up to 3 years. Employment conditional on successful enrolment as a PhD student at the PhD School, Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. Salary and terms follow MSCA guidelines and the Danish framework. The EU MSCA grant includes living, mobility, and potential family allowances depending on eligibility.
