Responsibilities Evaluate current database structure, identify data storage and access issues, and understand business objectives to define database requirements Develop database architecture, including data models, tables, relationships, and normalization to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval Install, configure, and deploy database systems on appropriate platforms, including data migration from existing systems Analyze database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning techniques to improve query response time and system efficiency Implement security measures to protect sensitive data including access controls, encryption, and data backup strategies Forecast future data storage needs and recommend database scaling strategies to accommodate growth Diagnose and resolve database issues, including data corruption, performance degradation, and system errors Generate reports and visualizations to provide insights into data trends and inform business decisions Provide training to users on database access, query writing, and data management best practices Manage database access and permissions Liaise with programmers, applications/operational staff, IT project managers, and other technical staff Review and manage database security, integrity, and backup procedures Write operating manual and provide training and support on database use Devise and implement processes for resolving faults and data loss Write Disaster Recovery Plans Archive Data Qualifications 3+ years of proven work experience as Database Administrator / Data Analyst Strong understanding of data modeling concepts including Entity-Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) Advanced SQL skills for data manipulation, query optimization, and reporting Ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and interpret results to inform decision-making Effective troubleshooting and resolution of complex database issues Clear communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements and explain complex concepts.
